About
How this site is funded
Rates last checked: 15 October 2026 · SmartShift UK
SmartShift UK is free to use. The calculators run in your browser and you never pay us. This page lists every way the site earns money, and how we keep that separate from the numbers.
How the site earns
- Amazon Associates. Some product links go to Amazon UK. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases, at no extra cost to you.
- Octopus Energy referral link. If you switch to Octopus through our link, Octopus gives you and SmartShift UK bill credit, as described on the homepage.
- Awin affiliate links (being added). We have applied, or plan to apply, to retailers on the Awin network, such as charger and dehumidifier sellers. None are live until each one approves us. When they go live, they will be marked the same way as Amazon links.
The free toolkit
The Switch to EV Toolkit (worksheets and checklists) and the 23:30–05:30 Overnight Planner are free when you sign up to the weekly email. We don’t sell them. After you confirm, the welcome email includes the weekly tips, the toolkit and the Overnight Planner. The sign-up box is at the bottom of this page.
How paid links are marked
- Affiliate links say “paid link” next to them and carry rel="sponsored", so search engines know they are paid.
- Emails that include paid links label them the same way.
- Pages with no paid links say so at the bottom.
Rates are chosen on merit
Which tariffs we list, and in what order, depends on the published rates, not on who pays us. Most of the 13 tariffs on UK EV tariffs compared pay us nothing, and they are listed and calculated exactly like the one that does. If a non-paying tariff is cheaper for you, the calculators will say so.
How the site is made
SmartShift UK is run by one person, with AI help for research, drafting and code. Every rate is checked against the supplier’s or regulator’s own page, and each page says when it was last checked. If you spot a mistake, the page will be corrected.
Not financial advice. SmartShift UK is not financial advice and is not regulated to give it. Check your own quote, bill and the supplier’s or manufacturer’s current terms before you switch or buy anything.

How can I tell if a link is paid?
