Best home charger for Intelligent Octopus Go: what Octopus supports (October 2026)

Rates last checked: 15 October 2026 · SmartShift UK

Intelligent Octopus Go gives 7.6p/kWh for up to 6 hours of smart charging a day, plus 23:30–05:30 for the whole home. To get it, Octopus has to be able to control your charging, either through your car or through a supported charger. So the “best” charger for this tariff is first one that Octopus supports. This page sticks to what Octopus and the makers publish; we haven’t tested these chargers.

Step 1: check your car first

Octopus says Intelligent Octopus Go works with over 280 cars, and that where both the car and charger are supported it prefers the car connection because it reads the battery level more precisely. If your car is supported, any safe, properly installed charger will do, including a Pod Point or a cheaper basic unit. Check on Octopus’s Intelligent Octopus Go page.

Step 2: if your car isn’t supported, pick a listed charger

How the options compare on what’s published

What the tariff is worth

For a typical EV doing 8,000 miles (2,216 kWh), charging at 7.6p is about £168 a year against £583 at the 26.32p cap. That is the car only. On the whole bill, with 2,500 kWh of other use and London’s rates, it is closer to £222 a year. Try your own numbers in the whole-bill calculator.

Other requirements from Octopus: an Octopus supply, a smart meter sending half-hourly readings, the Octopus app on iOS 14+ or Android 7+, and a £50 exit fee on the fixed tariff.

Questions people ask

Which chargers work with Intelligent Octopus Go?

On 15 October 2026 Octopus listed Octopus Charge, Ohme (Home Pro and ePod), Hypervolt (Home 3 Pro), myenergi zappi and Indra (Smart PRO), and its tariff page said Andersen chargers are now supported. Octopus also connects directly to many cars, in which case the charger brand doesn’t matter.

Do I need a smart charger for Intelligent Octopus Go?

Only if Octopus can’t connect to your car. Octopus says it is compatible with over 280 cars and prefers a car connection where both are possible, because the car reports its battery level more accurately.

How much is the cheapest supported charger?

From the pages we checked, Octopus’s chargers and the Ohme ePod both start at £949 including standard installation, and the Ohme Home Pro at £999. We didn’t verify prices for Hypervolt, myenergi, Indra or Andersen.

What else do I need?

Octopus says you need to be an Octopus customer, have a smart meter sending half-hourly readings, and an iPhone (iOS 14 or later) or Android (7 or later) for the app. The fixed tariff has a £50 exit fee.

Is a Pod Point charger OK on Intelligent Octopus Go?

Only through a supported car: Pod Point wasn’t on Octopus’s supported-charger list we checked. Pod also says Pod Rewards and its subscription aren’t available on smart EV tariffs.

Is this financial advice?

No. Check Octopus’s compatibility checker for your exact car and charger before you buy.

Not financial advice. This is a summary of what Octopus and the makers publish, not a product test. Check your own quote, bill and the supplier’s or manufacturer’s current terms before you switch or buy anything.
