Pod Point vs Ohme: price, smart tariffs, Wi-Fi vs 4G and warranty (UK, 2026)

Rates last checked: 15 October 2026 · SmartShift UK

Pod Point and Ohme are two of the best-known UK home chargers. Both are 7.4 kW single-phase units with standard installation included in the price. The real differences are how they connect, which smart tariffs they work with, and what you get if you pay monthly. Everything below is from the makers’ own pages and datasheets, checked on 15 October 2026.

Warranty note. Pod’s home-charging page says paying upfront comes with a 3-year standard warranty and the subscription with 5. Pod’s domestic warranty statement (May 2025–June 2026) lists 60 months for a Solo 3S bought on or after 21 May 2025. We couldn’t reconcile the two, so ask Pod which applies to your order and get it in writing.

If you’re on, or want, Intelligent Octopus Go

This is the biggest practical difference. Octopus names the Ohme Home Pro and ePod among the smart chargers that let you join Intelligent Octopus Go when your car isn’t directly supported. Pod Point isn’t on that list. You can still use a Pod Point if Octopus can connect to your car, but Pod says its Pod Rewards cash-back and its subscription aren’t available on smart EV tariffs, and it names Intelligent Octopus Go among them.

If you want a fixed-window tariff or Pod’s own tariff

On a fixed-window tariff (Octopus Go, EDF GoElectric, E.ON Next Drive and others), any charger with a schedule works. Pod Point buyers can get Pod Power by EDF, a whole-home tariff with cheap electricity 23:00–06:00. Our tariff comparison lists EDF’s Pod Point tariff at 6.18p/kWh, the lowest off-peak rate we found on 15 October 2026. The day rate and standing charge are quote only, so use the whole-bill calculator with your quote.

Installation

Pod says over 90% of customers qualify for its standard installation: up to 15 m of cable, a hole through a wall up to 500 mm, an extra consumer unit if needed and up to 3 m of conduit. Extra work such as trenching is quoted separately and you can cancel for a full refund. Ohme says most UK homes qualify for its standard installation and offers a custom installation for the rest. Questions people ask

Which is cheaper, Pod Point or Ohme?

On the makers’ own pages on 15 October 2026, the Ohme ePod is from £949 and both the Ohme Home Pro and a Pod Point charger paid upfront are from £999, all including standard installation. Pod Point also offers £99 upfront and £34 a month for 36 months, which is £1,323 in total.

Does Pod Point work with Intelligent Octopus Go?

Pod Point wasn’t in the list of supported chargers on Octopus’s pages we checked (Ohme, Hypervolt, myenergi zappi, Indra, Octopus Charge, and Andersen was newly added). If Octopus supports your car directly, you can join through the car instead. Pod says Pod Rewards and its subscription aren’t available on smart EV tariffs like Intelligent Octopus Go.

Does Ohme work with Intelligent Octopus Go?

Yes. Octopus lists the Ohme Home Pro and ePod as smart chargers you can join Intelligent Octopus Go with, even if your car isn’t directly supported.

Do they need Wi-Fi?

Pod says its charger needs a full-time Wi-Fi connection for Pod Drive features and can supply an extender. Ohme chargers use a built-in 4G SIM, so Wi-Fi isn’t needed.

Can I get a grant for either?

Ohme says its chargers are OZEV-approved. Pod says the OZEV grant (up to £500) can only be used when you pay upfront, not on the subscription. The grant is only for renters, flat owners and on-street households, not people who own a house with a driveway. Use our OZEV grant checker.
