The two home grants
| Grant | Who can apply | Key conditions |
|---|---|---|
| Renters and flat owners | You own and live in a flat, or rent and live in any residential property (shared ownership counts) | Private off-street parking you have a legal right to and can always reach. Not lodgers, not owners of a house. |
| Households with on-street parking | You own or rent the home you live in and have on-street parking only | Permanent cross-pavement charging solution, highways authority consent, any planning permission. Not if you have private off-street parking. |
Rules that apply to both
- Up to £500 or 75% of the cost of buying and installing one socket, whichever is lower. On a £949 job that is £500, leaving £449.
- Funding is confirmed until 31 March 2027. The government says it will aim to give 4 weeks’ notice of any change.
- Apply first. The chargepoint must not be installed before OZEV confirms you’re eligible. OZEV estimated up to 10 working days to assess applications on its new platform.
- Use an OZEV-authorised installer and an eligible chargepoint model.
- You can’t apply if you’re moving, have already claimed this grant or its predecessors, or a chargepoint was legally required (for example a new build).
- Property must be in England, Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland.

Questions people ask
How much is the OZEV chargepoint grant in 2026?
75% of the cost to buy and install one socket, up to £500. The maximum went up from £350 to £500 on 1 April 2026, and funding is confirmed until 31 March 2027.
Can homeowners get the EV charger grant?
Not if you own and live in a house with off-street parking. The flats and renters grant is for people who own a flat or rent their home. Homeowners with on-street parking only can apply for the on-street grant if they install a permanent cross-pavement channel with highways consent.
Can I claim the grant after the charger is installed?
No. OZEV says the chargepoint must not be installed until it confirms you are eligible, and the grant can’t be backdated.
Which cars qualify?
Vehicles on OZEV’s list of approved electric vehicles. You can qualify as the registered keeper, by leasing one, as a company car driver, or with one on order.
Who applies, me or the installer?
You apply through the GOV.UK Find a grant service. If you’re eligible, an OZEV-authorised installer fits an eligible chargepoint, deducts the grant from your invoice and claims it from OZEV.
Is this checker official?
No. It is a summary of the GOV.UK rules checked on 15 October 2026. OZEV decides eligibility.
Not financial advice. This checker summarises published rules and can’t confirm eligibility. Check your own quote, bill and the supplier’s or manufacturer’s current terms before you switch or buy anything.
